In April 2007 the MPO began a collaborative effort to create a Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for Farmington, Aztec, Bloomfield and the urbanized areas of San Juan County.
The purpose of the Bicycle/Pedestrian plan is to improve networks and facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians, to improve the safety of these networks, and provide mode choice. The intention is to create a plan that will provide guidance on how to make short- and long-term improvements to encourage greater use of biking and walking modes.
The MPO created an advisory group of representative stakeholders, named the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Group (BPAG), to assist in plan development through its entirety. The MPO thanks the participants for their time, input, and support.
The Bicycle/Pedestrian Plan was adopted by the Policy Committee on June 12, 2008.
On June 10, 2010, the Bicycle/Pedestrian Plan update was approved by the Policy Committee.
