Services of the Crime Lab
The Crime Scene Investigation Unit consists of two full-time civilian technicians and one auxiliary officer who assists in an Auxiliary Crime Scene Investigator capacity. Together this unit is responsible for documenting, collecting, photographing, processing, and analyzing evidence located at all major crime scenes. CSI also coordinates with the New Mexico Department of Public Safety Forensic Laboratory for latent fingerprint analysis, DNA, firearms forensics, and other avenues of forensic investigation.
In addition to the lab services, the staff also provides training for the law enforcement academy, the Citizens Police Academy and conducts in-service training for officers assigned the duties of crime scene investigation.
