Walk a Shelter Dog

Starting March 17, 2020, until further notice, dog walking will be limited to five walkers per hour during normal times. Only one person will be allowed in the building to pick up a dog to walk. Additional people in your party may wait outside and then walk together on the park trails.

Dog walking at the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter is a chance to enrich the life of a shelter dog while enjoying the outdoors and the beauty of the Farmington river trails. Dog walking can be done any time we are open to the public from 11:30 to 5:30 p.m.

  • Those interested in dog walking will need to read and agree to the rules and regulations and sign a liability waiver.
  • Bring the forms to the animal shelter and we will make a copy of your driver license and then you are eligible to walk dogs.  Fill out a dog walking form right here!  Download our waiver of liability here.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age to walk the shelter dogs.
  • Children are welcome to come along but the adult must have control of the leash at all times.

Our dog walkers are only eligible for dog walking. To be a full volunteer please visit the volunteer page.
