Drought Management Plan: Stages 1-3


The purpose of this information is to provide a list of actions by the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) to implement the intent of the Conservation of Water in Emergencies Code of Ordinances during Stages 1-3 water restrictions.


PRCA is one of the largest water users in the City of Farmington. The department irrigates athletic fields, parks, medians, golf courses, and aquatic facilities across a large part of the City. The breadth of the natural assets that require watering is staggering, and is a large part of the character of our community. PRCA is in a unique position during water emergencies to manage water consumption balanced with taxpayers’ investment into our quality of life. The City of Farmington has invested millions of dollars in natural infrastructure that needs to be weighted with conservation actions. Even with a careful balancing of conservation and investment the department still expects some loss of plant life that may need to be replaced in the future.


In an effort to be good water stewards and manage the financial consequences of our decisions, PRCA will utilize the following drought actions:
