The Community Development Department is dedicated to working collaboratively within and outside local government, to create an environmentally responsible, aesthetically pleasing and economically viable community for the present and future citizens:  Together, we are building a better Farmington!

The Community Development Department provides administrative and technical direction on the issues and projects that are relevant to the development and redevelopment of the City of Farmington.

There are four Divisions within the Department:

The Planning Division activities encompass:

  • Advance Planning, such as developing and updating plans, reviewing annexation proposals, working with the MPO staff, and implementing projects and programs at the direction of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) Board
  • Development Services, such as providing land use information to the public, reviewing development plans, and reviewing land use proposals

The Building Inspection Division activities encompass:

  • Providing permit and building code information to the public
  • Issuing building permits
  • Providing building inspections, electrical inspections, plumbing and mechanical inspections

The Community Development Block Grant Division activities encompass:

  • Developing and implementing the Consolidated Plans and the Annual Action Plans
  • Administering CDBG-funded programs, including the Downtown Facade Improvement Program

The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Division activities encompass:

  • Developing long-range regional transportation plans, including major roadways, transit services, and trails
