Electric Rates Overview
The Farmington Electric Utility System encourages load growth and economic development in the community through stable rates for its customers and through developing incentives in various customer rate classes. Our menu of customer rates includes rates for residential service, businesses, industrials and economic development. The Economic Rider reduces the cost of service provided under the Large General Service Rate for a new manufacturing or processing customer with a minimum electric demand of 500 kilowatts. The Bulk Power Service Rate is for customers with a demand of 4000 kilowatts or more. Large Industrial Service customers with a demand of 6000 kilowatts and a minimum average monthly load factor of 65% also have a rate which offers competitively priced electricity. A new rate was added to the menu in 1997 which offers electricity at market based prices for new loads of 8000 kilowatts or more.

ELECTRIC RATE CLASS DESCRIPTION
The entire 1718 square mile service territory served by FEUS, including Farmington, Bloomfield and a large rural area, is covered by ten rate schedules. The majority of customers fall under three categories; Residential, General, and Large General.
ELECTRIC RATES
Residential Customer rates include a flat fee and a usage charge every month.
- $3.00 Customer Charge
- $0.08/kWh first 200 kWh
- $0.0765/kWh additional kWh
- The demand charge is built into the energy charge
- A power cost adjustment may be charged
General Service rate applies to small commercial customers with a peak demand of less than 35 kW, and/or less than 12,250 kWh for any three months over a year. This rate includes a fixed monthly customer charge and a usage charge. The usage charge for commercial customers is slightly higher than residential customer because commercial service demands more capacity for the same usage.
- $4.50 Customer Charge
- $0.0875/kWh first 400/kWh
- $0.0865/kWh additional kWh
- The demand charge is built into the energy charge
- A power cost adjustment may be charged
Large General Service rate applies to customers with a peak demand of at least 35 kW, and/or more than 12,550 kWh. They are charged separately for usage and peak demand to allow them to plan their electrical usage and spread it over the day to reduce demand charges. This rate schedule also offers optional off-peak billing for customers who are able to shift the bulk of their load demand to off-peak hours. If the load is 200kW or greater and the off-peak demand is twice the on-peak demand, the customer is billed for only half of the peak demand. Each monthly billing comprises of the following
- $7.75/kW for Demand Charge
- $0.0540/kWh for the first 500 per kW of Billing Demand is the Energy Charge
- $0.040/kWh for all energy in excess of 500 kWh per kW of Billing Demand
- This rate also includes a power factor adjustment, a primary voltage discount, and a transmission voltage discount
- A power cost adjustment may be charged
