The Farmington Fire Department is responsible for protecting life and property at the Four Corners Regional Airport, located in the western part of the city. The airport resides at 5,503 feet in elevation and consists of 603.5 acres. It has two intersecting runways with lengths of 6,702 feet and 6,500 feet respectively. Service is provided at the appropriate Airport Index level as defined by FAR 139. The Fixed Base Operator (FBO) is 7 Bar Four Corners Aviation (505 325-2867).

Personnel assigned to Farmington Fire Station 3, located at the Four Corners Regional Airport, are ARFF qualified and EMT-B trained firefighters. Equipment located at the station include a 1990 Oshkosh TA-1500 4X4 Crash/Rescue Truck and a 1997 Dodge 1 ton 4X4 pickup with Ansul skid unit for rapid intervention. The Oshkosh is equipped with 1500 gallons of water, 195 gallons of 3% AFFF foam concentrate and 700 pounds of Purple K Dry Chem. The Dodge is equipped with 100 gallons of premixed AFFF and 450 pounds of Purple K Dry Chem. Both units contain rescue and medical equipment. Also located at the airport is a 10’ long mass casualty incident trailer equipped with enough EMS equipment to manage up to 50 patients.

All personnel assigned to the airport have received training in basic ARFF, as defined by FAR 139. Each person participates in monthly training sessions which include, but are not limited to topics outlined in FAR 139. All personnel also participate in an annual 24 hour ARFF refresher course, conducted by Farmington Fire personnel certified to teach ARFF. Outside instructors are also utilized when available. Once a year, ARFF personnel participate in live flammable liquids fire suppression training at a local gas and oil refinery. Once every three years, personnel participate in a multiple casualty exercise at the airport.

Duties at the airport include assisting the Fire Prevention/Investigation Division with inspections of all fuel storage, fuel dispensing and fuel trucks located on the grounds. Runway lights, taxiway lights, wind sock lights, and signs are checked nightly for proper function.

All ARFF personnel serve on an ARFF Advisory Committee. The committee oversees all training functions, maintains training records, coordinates required training exercises, and participates in the annual review of the Airport Emergency Plan.
