Farmington Fire Department will staff six stations with 83 career personnel. A tiered Emergency Medical Service system is in place. All Farmington Fire Department personnel are licensed Emergency Medical Technicians at a Basic level. San Juan Regional Hospital supports an Advanced Life Support Ambulance system that responds with fire units to all emergency medical calls for service.

Our personnel are trained through a combination of department as well as outside training opportunities offered by San Juan College Fire Science Program, National Fire Academy, New Mexico Firefighter Academy, along with many other national, regional and state organizations and trainers. The IAFF/IAFC Joint Wellness Fitness Initiative is supported and all personnel participate in physical training daily. Farmington Fire Department has a regional response Hazardous Materials Team whose members are trained to the Haz Mat Technician Level. The department also has a Technical Rescue Team and has approximately 12 technicians who are members of the New Mexico Chapter of FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team. All members of the Tech Rescue Team are trained to a technician level in Swiftwater, Confined Space, and High Angle Rope Rescue.

Farmington Fire Department’s firefighting procedures are aggressive interior attacks using the Incident Command System. All engine companies carry 3 to 4 personnel. The department has apparatus including pumpers, quints, rescues, aerials, brush trucks, command vehicles and ARFF units.

Farmington Fire Department answers calls for service of all types including fire, EMS Haz Mat, Wildland, rescues and public service. The department works with Farmington Police Department and has members on the police Special Weapons and Tactics Team as SWAT Medics. We also have members on the police Bomb Tech Team. Farmington Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with all surrounding volunteer and combination departments.
