Regional Animal Shelter
Current Shelter
The current Farmington Animal Shelter to be replaced is over 30 years old, literally wedged between the Waste Water Treatment Plant and the Power Plant with no place to expand, and only contains a total of 54 animal enclosures. Not one of our dog kennels meets the Humane Society of the United States regulations for space required per dog and we are forced to place several dogs in each kennel. Numbers vary from year to year, the the shelter receives an average of 20 or more animal each day. If the shelter were completely empty today, it would be completely full two days from now - and we must hold each animal for five days before it's eligible for adoption.
The New Shelter
The anticipated Regional Animal Shelter will replace the Farmington Animal Shelter and, upon completion, become one of the area's premier animal shelters. This new shelter will mark a new era in homeless pet care for the Four Corners and you can be a part of it! Be a part of history in the making and support this project.
The new shelter was originally due to be located on 10 acres of annexed land north of the County Detention Center on Andrea Dr. The Farmington City Council recently voted to move the new location to Browning Pkwy for a central, more visible location with far less infrastructure costs while maintaining space for future expansion.
