Art Workshops for Adults

George Francis will be your host for a silversmithing/jewelry-making workshop at the Farmington Museum.  Take home your own special hand-crafted item.  This free project is for people age 18+, and is made possible in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  For more information, call (505) 566-2290.

2011 Gateway to Imagination:  A National Juried Art Competition

Attention artists!  Get your work prepared for entry into the 2011 Gateway to Imagination:  A National Juried Art Competition.  The show will take place at the Farmington Museum.  Any media may be entered, open to artists age 18 and older, and artwork must have been completed after January 1, 2010.  The show will award $2,750 in cash prizes.  There is a $35 entry fee for a maximum of 2 slides or digital files of your artwork.  The show is from May 6 to Jul 9 and the prospectus can be found online at www.farmingtonmuseum.org.  For more information, call (505) 599-1174.

“A Farming Town Grows Up” Tour

Let Robert Batley, docent at the Farmington Museum, be your host for guided tours of the exhibit “A Farming Town Grows Up.”  Visitors are welcome to stop at the museum anytime between 10am and Noon on the 3rd Wednesday of the month for a personable view of Farmington’s history and pioneer families.  Mr Batley also trains new volunteers to lead guided tours of this exhibit.  Please RSVP to the volunteer coordinator at 599-1421 to attend docent training.  For more information, call (505) 599-1174.

 

“Three Waters Trading Post” Tour

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Let Harris M. Richard give you a tour of the Farmington Museum’s “Three Waters Trading Post” every third Thursday of the month.  The exhibit features a walk-through replica of a 1930s trading post with a bull pen stocked with period goods and artifacts, a pawn room and office showcases jewelry and rugs.  While you’re there for the tour, learn more about this fascinating time from the computer kiosk and trading posts map outside this exhibit.  Mr Richard also trains new volunteers to lead guided tours of this exhibit.  Please RSVP to the volunteer coordinator at 599-1421 to attend docent training.  For more information, call (505) 599-1174.

 

Spring Break Art Camp

10:00 a.m. – Noon

This camp at the Farmington Museum, designed for kids ages 8-15, will teach kids how to draw cartoons, what comprises a good photo, learn how to set up a film shot, play improvisation games, and learn how to draw Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs and learn about their meaning.  Space is limited so register early.  To register, or for more information call, call (505) 566-2290.

 

Family Spring Break

The Farmington Museum System offers family activities through the week of spring break.  There is something for every afternoon at one of the Museum System locations designed for families with school-aged children.  Activities are free, fun, and educational.  Come every day or just when you can.  For more information, call (505) 599-1422.

 

Tuesday, March 22 – Come to the Riverside Nature Center in Animas Park off the Browning Pkwy for a “Tracks and Traces” hike.  We will look for animals and their tracks, and may be able to make plaster casts of some tracks to take home.

 

 

Wednesday, March 23 – Come to the Farmington Museum for “All Things Trading Post.”  Take a tour of our Three Waters Trading Post and participate in hands-on activities . . . all in keeping with the Trading Post theme.

 

 

 

Thursday, March 24 – Come to the E3 Children’s Museum & Science Center to paint, glue and cut.  See what can come from the paper rolls we usually throw out.  This will be an exciting way to reuse – bring your imagination!  Samples and ideas will be available.

 

 

Friday, March 25 – Simple bird feeders at the Riverside Nature Center.  Learn about birds as we make simple pinecone bird feeders and take a walk to hang them in the park.  Feed the ducks, and look for other feathered friends.
