The Animal Shelter is located at 1395 South Lake. It is open to the public for adoptions and for the release of impounded animals Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The shelter often has many different types of pets for adoption such as ferrets, mice, guinea pigs, iguanas, snakes, and birds–to name a few. Adoption fees vary for these unique animals.

The 6,800 square foot animal shelter facility includes 24 stray/adoption kennels, puppy and cat rooms, a petting room, offices, separate rabies observation kennels, and a night deposit. Eleven full-time rangers provide for the feeding, cleaning, adoption, release, and euthanasia of all types of animals for the Farmington community, as well as San Juan County. They are also responsible for the enforcement of all ordinances governing the parks and Farmington Lake, and provide security for major city events.
