Bomb Squad



The Police Bomb Squad Unit is made up of six technicians and is directed by the SWAT commander. Of these technicians, four are police officers and two are crosstrained Farmington fire-fighters with backgrounds in hazardous materials. The unit responds to any incident of known explosives or incidents involving suspicious packages and unknown substances.

The Bomb Squad is the only FBI certified team in the Four Corners area. The Bomb Squad is designated as a regional response unit and provides routine and emergency support to all of Farmington and San Juan County in New Mexico, and cities and counties in the lower parts of Colorado. The unit maintains a large amount of specialized equipment including the ANDROS Robotic System, a Total Containment Vessel, Bomb Suits, X-ray, Disrupter Systems, and a Polaris Utility Vehicle. The Bomb Squad also has certified Explosive Breachers that support local SWAT team operations. All squad members take pride in supporting the community in both emergency and routine operations that include Explosive Recognition, Bomb Threat Management, and Explosive Safety Instructional Classes. The squad performs numerous static displays through out the year in support of Special Olympics, Food Drives, and local schools.
