Farmington to Attend Outdoor Retailer Show in Denver
Sharing Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative (ORII) with Nation’s Leading Brands
Farmington, NM — The City of Farmington continues to take bold steps to ensure a bright future for its citizens. Following the creation of New Mexico’s first community Outdoor Recreation Department and passing a dedicated Economic Development and Community Transformation tax, Farmington is officially showcasing its Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative (ORII) to the nation.
Continuing to execute the strategy to create a thriving outdoor economy, the City of Farmington will be exhibiting at the Outdoor Retailer Show in Denver June 18-20 2019 as part of the New Mexico Pavilion sponsored by the New Mexico Partnership, the economic development recruiting point-of-contact for the state.
The Outdoor Retailer Show is the world’s largest business-to-business trade show offering gear, apparel and accessories to retailers and suppliers.
The Team ORII contingent, comprised of Mayor Nate Duckett, City Manager Rob Mayes, ORII/Economic Development Director Warren Unsicker, Farmington Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Tonya Stinson, Metropolitan Redevelopment Area Board Member Dr. John McNeill, Farmington Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Jamie Church, San Juan County Executive Officer Mike Stark, 505 Cycles owner Dale Davis and San Juan College Outdoor Recreation Coordinator Roman McCabe, will represent the community.
“The Outdoor Recreation Industry Initiative (ORII) is a path forward for our city. As an energy-based community sitting in the middle of the best outdoor recreation environment in the United States, we must take advantage of our natural outdoor and cultural amenities to attract new industry, tourism and active families and retirees,” said Farmington Mayor Nate Duckett. “We believe we can be the ‘next Moab’ and are just now scratching the surface of the economic prosperity that will come with investment from new and energized outdoor recreation companies in our community.”
Leveraging the region’s natural amenities and iconic landscapes, ideal four-season weather, highly skilled labor force and considerable manufacturing capacity, Team ORII members will promote Farmington as nature’s proving ground for designing, testing and manufacturing outdoor gear such as mountain bikes, kayaks and apparel.
Farmington Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Jamie Church added, “ORII represents the collaborative efforts of our community and our local leaders to work together to bring outdoor recreation and manufacturing businesses to Farmington. Our city is ready and willing to embrace economic diversity and ORII sends the unified message that Farmington is open for business and we are ready work with outdoor based businesses to help them grow and thrive in this market.”
