Farmington Fire Department issues fire restrictions due to dry conditions
No open burning until further notice
Farmington, N.M. - The Farmington Fire Department today announced it will implement fire restrictions throughout the city of Farmington. The restrictions are a coordinated effort with the New Mexico State Forestry Division, which announced state-wide fire restrictions yesterday in a press release, to ensure communities throughout New Mexico have fire safety measures in place during this time of elevated fire danger.
“Our area is experiencing warmer temperatures and lower humidity, which increases fire danger,” said Farmington Fire Chief David Burke. “We are urging citizens and visitors to observe restrictions and use extreme caution when engaging in any activity that could cause a fire.”
Starting today until further notice:
- Open burning is prohibited, this includes campfires. Fire pits at Lake Farmington are not available for use at the camping area. Cooking with propane, kerosene or charcoal is permitted.
- FFD will not be issuing burn permits, until further notice.
